Destiny Clark (Florence Hudson) A native of St. Clair Co.   Destiny enjoys spending time with family and her 6(six) Huskies. (WHAT AM I THINKING? !!!)  She is the current Queen XIV of The Mystic Krewe of Caritas.  Her most recent roles include Lucy /Emcee at SCT in A (not so) Retro Christmas Variety Show, Dinah in Sweet Delilah Swim Club at SCT and Sissy Hickey at BFT.   She wants to Thank Rachael for the chance to be back at SCT and is excited to be working with this wonderful cast and crew.

Donna Littlepage (Willa Wild) Donna has had the honor and pleasure of performing at many local theatres including Terrific New Theatre, Theatre Downtown, The Virginia Samford Theatre and ACTA Theatre (The Arts Council of the Trussville Area). Donna was cast in her first SCT play, Arsenic and Old Lace, in 2007 and is so happy to be performing here again in this wonderful coming of age production of WWW!”

Kathy Scruggs (Doreen) It is a real thrill to be a part of this great cast and crew and working with some of the funniest women I know. I love working with the South City team and hope to do more in the future. Thanks to Derek for tirelessly running lines with me.

Michelle  Vercher  (Edith Macklin) Recent works with South City include Stage Manager for A Tuna Christmas,  Covering Dish, Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming, Elvis People, A (Not So) Retro Christmas, The Diary of Anne Frank, and The Night of January 16th. Previous work at South City includes One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, M*A*S*H, Harvey, and The Odd Couple. “I would like to thank my family and all the wonderful directors, casts, and crews who have made my time at South City so meaningful.”

Robin Wallace (Johnnie Faye Wild) Always drawn to roles that explore the complexities of strong Southern women, Robin is thrilled to be back onstage at South City Theatre. Her performances as Sissy in Sordid Lives, Sugar Lee and Mavis in Hallelujah Girls and Truvy in Steel Magnolias have been some of her most memorable. In the process of bringing Johnnie Faye (Jeff)to life, Robin has discovered a little more about herself and has realized that perhaps we all can identify with the Wild Women of Winedale!

Salena Whalen-Stalker (Glenda Bates) Is thrilled to return to SCT and to be part of this fabulous cast and crew! Her past performances here include Eleemosynary (Dorothea), Elvis People (various), Welcome to Mitford (Cynthia Coppersmith), Cat on A Hot Tin Roof (Big Mama), Love, Loss, and What I Wore (various), Radio TBS (Dixie), and Steel Magnolias (Clairee). Salena has also appeared in various productions around the Birmingham area. She dedicates this show to her biggest supporter, her late husband, Marc, and wishes to thank you for supporting live theatre! Enjoy the show!

Sharon B. Morgan (Fanny Wild Cantrelle) She counts it an honor and a blessing to work with this incredibly dedicated, fun, talented director, cast, and crew.  Thank you to the wonderful, Rachael Pike Upton, for your wonderful vision, kindness, patience, and leadership in bringing these delightful women of Virginia to life. Each unique character shares so much heart and soul in what events have changed and defined their lives to be confident, strong, happy people.  Great job, Cast – you all definitely “got it goin’ on!” This show could not go on without the faithful, hardworking crew – much gratitude is bestowed upon each of you! Audience, applause to you for coming to South City Theatre and supporting local community theatre! So many true, enlightening declarations throughout this show for any of us, any age – maybe one will spark your interest and lead you to embrace an exciting new adventure!

Suzy Conerly (Betty Dunlap ) A semi-recent transplant to the area, Suzy has recently been seen in A Christmas Story (Ms. Shields), & Catch Me If You Can ( Ms. Parker). She was also a founding member of the Boom Town Opry Players group in Fort Payne. When not being mom-of-the-year to her 3 kids, or being a prime example of what a responsible adult should be, Suzy enjoys purchasing unnecessary amounts of bumper stickers from breweries/bands, talking loudly in libraries while daring someone to say something, & driving with the windows down, making sure everyone in a 3 block radius enjoys the same songs she’s been listening to since the 90s.

Valerie Brock (Nora Griffin) Back on the boards after 4 years! I am so excited to be working with such talented actors and with our wonderful director Rachael again. I have been active in community theater for over 15 years in New York, Connecticut and Alabama. My favorite Roles are (Cherie) Bus Stop, (Vi) The Memory of Water and (Jinx) Savannah Sipping Society. Thank you, Harvey for continuing to encourage me.

Rachael Upton (Director) is excited to be back in the director’s chair! Most recently, she directed The Sweet Delilah Swim Club by the same playwrights. Rachael also directed productions of The Odd Couple (Female Version) and Radio City:TBS right here at SCT. You may have seen her onstage in several productions all around the Birmingham metro. Rachael would like to thank the tremendous cast & crew, and her loved ones for the support-especially her wife. Enjoy the show!

Jason Cox (Assistant Director) Jason is glad to be back to South City but in a different capacity. He serves as assistant director and has learned quite a bit through this process! He has been most recently seen on stage with CAST theatre in Rent. He thanks Rachael for this experience and hopes to direct one day here at South City! To the cast, what a joy it has been to see you transform your characters! To the patrons, I hope you enjoy the show! Prepare to laugh as we never got through a rehearsal without laughter!

Jess Smyly (Stage Manager) (she/her) is so excited to work on another wonderful show at her favorite place with so many of her favorite people AND new friends! She has been active with South City Theatre for over 15 years and has loved growing up with her “theatre people”. Jess is a Pre-Kindergarten teacher by day and spends most of her free time at SCT either acting and singing onstage, working hard behind the scenes, or directing the youth workshops and camps. In her other free time, Jess enjoys singing, spending time outdoors, and snuggling her kitties. Break a Leg, cast and crew!!! <3

Alex Daigler (Assistant Stage Manager) Originally from Mississippi, where I competed in competition theatre in high school. I recently jumped back into theatre with SCT’s Crimes of the Heart after a long departure to complete my studies at Ole Miss and Samford. I’m beyond excited to be apart of this amazing cast & crew with such an incredibly hilarious and touching story.

Clark French (Light Design and Sound Tech) An active member of the music ministry at Riverchase United Methodist Church, Clark sings in the choir and plays trumpet in the orchestra. He is also a a member of Celebration Winds and Birmingham Community Band.   Clark has appeared onstage in Oklahoma, Pirates of Penzance, and Annie Get Your Gun at RUMC; The King and I, Oklahoma, and Bloody Murder with the Leeds Arts Council; and The Music Man with South City Theatre. Clark can often be seen running lights and/or sound around town including Into the Woods, Private Lives, Rabbit Hole (AACT Best in Show, SETC 3rd place) with the Leeds Art Council; The Good Doctor, Maytag Virgin, Tea and Sympathy, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Picnic Jan, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at BFT; Yellow and The Crucible with Theatre Downtown; Harvey, Collected Stories Elvis People, Covering Dish, and Crimes of the Heart at South City Theatre.

Director’s Notes

This is the second Jones, Hope, Wooten comedy that I have had the privilege of directing. While these shows are known for their raucous, laugh-out-loud Southern humor, what I love most about them is the heart that radiates throughout the dialogue. You will most certainly laugh, but I bet you might also have a tear or two and find yourself relating to one or more of these characters. The women in this story are so thoroughly developed and well-written, it’s easy to be captivated by the story. This cast has worked so hard to bring these roles to life, and it’s been a great pleasure to watch and help them find pieces of themselves within their characters. I believe you will see yourself, or someone you know, within them too. Please sit back and relax for the next couple of hours, and enjoy your trip to Winedale, Virginia. WE can’t wait to show you around!

I would like to dedicate this show to the memory of my mom, Laura; my wife, Catherine Gail; and our soon-to-arrive daughter, Evelyn: three of my most-loved “wild” women.

South CIty Theatre would like to thank Mike Gerrells, Justin McGuire, Catherine Gail Upton, Clark French, Ron Rabun, and Mindy Egan.  Special thanks to MinuteMan Press for their continued support of SCT.
